What can I say? If you come here, and if you miss non-gentrified, non-hyped, old school, inexpensive, home cooked meals with a witty yet compassionate owner, from a business that's been through two generations, in a small hole in the wall, come here. The most expensive thing on the menu is $9.00 and it's a full meal.

If you're stuffy and demand formality, go elsewhere. The small quirky mannerisms are nothing worth mentioning. Just realize when you're stepping into her restaurant you're essentially stepping into her home, and it's not an act. She treats you like you're home. Give her a tip and she'll stuff it back in your pocket. Chat with her for a bit and she'll insist you have some free baklava. Or more meat. I think Kathy just likes serving people and keeping busy. This business will sorely be missed if the area continues to morph into hipsterville. But don't worry. The family owns the building. She ain't going anywhere.

The service was quite unwelcoming. The woman acted like I was bothering her and she had no time to waste on me, a customer. I asked another lady as she was leaving how she found the service and she said she's been a regular for years. She said they just come for the food and because it's a family owned business but the mother and daughter are generally unfriendly and unwelcoming and don't treat people nicely.

I ordered a chicken sandwich which comes with a salad to go. The sandwich had 5 bits of chicken, too much yoghurt dressing and some lettuce and bits of tomato.

Maybe they are burned out and need a vacation in Greece. I hear Greece is a very friendly place.

This tiny little deli has been on my list for a while but I've never seem to get there when it's open. I finally got my chance when I got the request for gyros.

Street Parking was easy but I was the 1st customer of the day. As soon as I waked in it smelled right.   There are vintage travel posters of Greece on the walls.  The chairs & tables are as blue as the seas.  The menu is basic.

Gyro with salad - good.  Not rolled tight.  But the flavors are there.
Dolmas - grape leaves stuffed with rice.  Served hot!  Very fresh and tasty.
Spinach Pie - small square of spinach pie with a huge salad.

I'd try then again if I can get the timing right.

What a quirky little hole in the wall. Don't let looks fool you the food is pretty darn good. I'm reasonably certain Reno will never have the authentically accurate Greek delights that the Little house on Fifth street served. This, however, may be the next best thing.

    Steve E's big 3.
    1. FOOD QUALITY/VALUE:
Out of this world. Great food and decent portions for a great price. The gyros taste good and the meat is fresh and not dried out. A very limited menu but easy to find something you'll enjoy. ++

    2. CLEANLINESS/ATMOSPHERE:
On a scale of 1-10, they get a 2. It's dingy. The tiny dining room is not clean and the atmosphere is nasty. I don't trust the environment, so I always eat offsite. I haven't used the restroom, so I can't comment. - -

    3. CUSTOMER SERVICE:
The lady working the register and kitchen is usually super nice to me. They haven't got a very good system when it comes to relating to the modern day customer and there's often a wait. -

Even though their customer service is the worst anywhere. I think it's worth your patience to try it once and go from there. In my few visits they have been very consistent with their food and I'm starting to get a feel for how business is conducted. Sometimes you have to park your notions at the door and say "When in Rome..."

Good Greek food. Might be best in Reno. However, that's not saying too much because their isn't a wealth of good Mediterranean food in Reno. The menu isn't the biggest, but that's a good thing. Place is small I recommend getting food to go. Also the window of time to come in is pretty narrow. But otherwise they put out solid food.
